ST Clement’s is embarking on a special mission with the Redemptorists to help students “see the bigger picture”. The school is taking part in a week long mission with the order, whose history is intertwined with that of the Redemptorist-run St Clement’s.All 450 students in the school are taking part in the retreat, the first time in Ireland that a school will partake in a full mission for a week.
Bishop of Limerick Brendan Leahy addressed the students this Tuesday in Mount St Alphonsus Church, flanked by rector Fr Adrian Egan and Fr Michael Kelleher, provincial superior of the Redemptorists. “People traditionally associate missions with the past, but there can be very modern missions, geared and suited for young people, and this is a classic example,” he said. “I think it is a sign of a new beginning for us.” Principal Vincent Foley explained that the mission, run by teams from Belfast and Cork, was a “historic” moment for the school.
“It is a celebration of who we are and what we are about. It is taking time out.” Fr Noel Kehoe, a Redemptorist based in Cork and mission team leader, said it was “about celebrating what already goes on in the school, the sense of community”.
